Morgan Freeman Addresses Allegations Of Sexual Harassment

Morgan Freeman has issued a public apology after eight women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against the Hollywood veteran.
A new CNN expose details accounts from 16 people, eight of whom were reportedly victims, about incidents of inappropriate behaviour on the set of the Shawshank Redemption star’s movies, on the promotional trail, and while working at his production company, Revelations Entertainment.
One young production assistant, who worked on Zach Braff’s 2017 crime comedy Going In Style, in which Morgan co-starred with Michael Caine and Alan Arkin, claimed to have been subjected to months of harassment by the 80-year-old, allegedly making frequent comments about her body and touching her lower back.
On one occasion, she recalls Freeman “kept trying to lift up my skirt and asking if I was wearing underwear,” leading Arkin to eventually chastise the Oscar winner.
“Alan made a comment telling him to stop,” she told CNN. “Morgan got freaked out and didn’t know what to say.”
Complaints were also made by three reporters covering press junkets for the movie, including CNN’s own Chloe Melas, who was six months pregnant when he allegedly gestured to her baby bump and quipped, “I wish I was there,” and “You are ripe”.
Another production staff member, who worked on Freeman’s 2012 movie Now You See Me, also opened up about the way Freeman allegedly treated her and her female assistant on set.
“He did comment on our bodies… We knew that if he was coming by… not to wear any top that would show our breasts, not to wear anything that would show our bottoms, meaning not wearing clothes that (were) fitted,” she explained.
According to the report, other women were subjected to inappropriate actions and remarks from Freeman while working at Revelations Entertainment, where the company’s co-founder, Lori McCreary, is said to have allegedly witnessed one such incident.
Sources claim she had also been at the receiving end of the star’s demeaning public comments.
One former employee at Revelations admits the reported behaviour stunned many, because Freeman is so well respected in Hollywood.
“(He’d say) things like, ‘I’d like to have an hour with her’ or make vulgar and sexual comments about women,” the ex-staff member said. “He would be verbally inappropriate and it was just shocking. You’re more shocked than anything because it’s hard to have the wherewithal to say to him, ‘That’s inappropriate’. You’re just like, ‘Whoa!’
“It’s hard because on any set he is the most powerful person on it. It’s weird because you just don’t expect it from Morgan Freeman, someone who you respect.”
Shortly after the CNN article hit headlines, Freeman issued a statement insisting he meant no harm by his alleged actions.
“Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy,” he declared. “I apologise to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected – that was never my intent.”

In the footage, the Men in Black star can be seen in the recording booth rapping about his money-making abilities, box office success and his family, shutting down speculation his 20-year marriage to Jada is in trouble.
“Twenty years of swag y’all just witnessed, stop the divorce rumors and mind your damn business,” he rapped, before giving his children Trey, 25, Jaden, 19, and Willow, 17, a shout out by saying, “The real-life Incredibles, last name Smith. The video ends with the message, “New music coming soon”. The Independence Day star has already confirmed that he will be performing on the official 2018 World Cup song with Diplo, reggaeton star Nicky Jam and Kosovar singer Era Istrefi. The soccer tournament kicks off in June.

Ariana Grande’s Mom Shares Family’s Tribute To Mark Manchester Bombing Anniversary

Ariana Grande’s mother has shared a touching tribute to mark the one-year anniversary of the Manchester Arena attack.
Joan Grande posted a photo to Twitter on Thursday showing family and friends, including Ariana, gathered around a grand piano at home.
The instrument was adorned with 22 candles in remembrance of those that died in the bombing, which took place on 22 May 2017 at Manchester Arena when a suicide bomber detonated a device in the foyer as fans left the popstar’s concert.
“It is unbelievable how May 22, 2017 started last year in Manchester!” Joan wrote alongside the image. “Who would ever have imagined the horrors that awaited us all.. one year later I look to the strength of Manchester with a bowed head, and love in my heart! At home last night, all together & grateful!”
It follows Ariana’s own heartfelt message on social media, which she posted to Twitter on Tuesday, thanking her fans for their continued support.
“Thinking of you all today and every day,” she tweeted, followed a bee emoji, a symbol for Manchester. “I love you with all of me and am sending you all of the light and warmth I have to offer on this challenging day.”
The 24-year-old also posted the front page of the Manchester Evening News paper which was completely black except for a series of yellow bees placed in a heart formation. Underneath, the names of the victims were written in white.
The anniversary was marked with a national minute’s silence and a remembrance service at Manchester Cathedral.

Jason Bateman Apologizes For Supporting Jeffrey Tambor Over Jessica Walter’s Complaint

Jason Bateman is “deeply sorry” for appearing to excuse Arrested Development co-star Jeffrey Tambor’s on-set behavior after Jessica Walter accused him of verbal harassment.
The cast of the Netflix comedy sat down with the New York Times for a group interview, during which they were asked about Jeffrey’s behavior on set, in the wake of him being let go from TV show Transparent over sexual harassment allegations.
Jessica, who plays his onscreen wife, tearfully said she had been verbally harassed by Jeffrey, who lashed out at her. Jeffrey, who recently confessed to losing his temper on set, was open about his “unconscionable” behavior and said he apologized to her, while Jason repeatedly interjected, saying he wasn’t trying to “belittle” Jessica’s story, but claimed Jeffrey’s actions are common in the entertainment industry.
The Horrible Bosses actor received backlash online for seemingly trying to condone or excuse his co-star’s behavior, and he issued a lengthy statement on Twitter on Thursday in which he insisted he was not doing those things, despite how it sounds.
“I’m horrified that I wasn’t more aware of how this incident affected her,” he tweeted. “I was so eager to let Jeffrey know that he was supported in his attempt to learn, grow and apologize that I completely underestimated the feelings of the victim, another person I deeply love – and she was sitting right there!
“I’m incredibly embarrassed and deeply sorry to have done that to Jessica. This is a big learning moment for me. I shouldn’t have tried so hard to mansplain, or fix a fight, or make everything okay.”
Jason, who admitted he “was wrong”, continued to apologize for failing to say there is no excuse for abuse in any form. He added, “And, the victim’s voice needs to be heard and respected. Period… I deeply, and sincerely, apologize.”
One of Jason’s detractors following his interview was actor Thomas Sadoski, who shared a picture of him with Jessica on Instagram and wrote in the caption that screaming at someone in the workplace isn’t acceptable, and trying to excuse that “unhinged bulls**t” behavior was “pathetic”.
“And it is even less acceptable for his male cast-mates to excuse it away IN FRONT OF THE PERSON THAT IT HAPPENED TO….(wait for it)….WHILE SHE IS TRYING TO EXPLAIN HOW TRAUMATIZING THE EXPERIENCE WAS,” he concluded.

Julianna Margulies Opens Up About Steven Seagal Gun Incident

Julianna Margulies has shared details of a “horrific” meeting she had with actor Steven Seagal in which he brandished a gun.
In a chat for the Katie Couric Podcast on Thursday, the former ER actress opened up to the broadcaster about her bizarre and uncomfortable hotel room meeting with Steven, whoshe starred with in ’90s movie Out for Justice.
“I walked in and I sat down and I jumped right back up because there was something very uncomfortable and hard in the couch. He laughed and said, ‘Oh sorry that must have been my gun,’” the The Good Wife star told Katie. “He lifted up the cushion and he took out his gun. And I had never seen a gun in my life, not up close. And I said, ‘Oh my god.’ I started getting very sweaty and he said, ‘Oh it’s just for all the crazies that are out there. I have to protect myself.’”
The then 23-year-old college graduate had expected the female casting director who asked her to meet with Steven, who has since been accused of sexual harassment by multiple women, to be in attendance.
However, once she realized she was alone in a hotel room with the armed Under Siege actor, Julianna got angry with herself, calling herself “stupid”.
The actor bizarrely informed Julianna that he was a “healer” and asked to read her palm, something she admitted she found comical.
“He told me I had really weak kidneys,” the 51-year-old laughed. “At that point, to be honest, as a New York girl, I kind of started laughing inside. Like, this guy’s pathetic… I squirmed my way out of there.”
Julianna finally left Steven’s room “sweating” and with a “pounding” heart, but was forced to return to be reimbursed for the $15 cab fare she’d insisted on before attending the audition. After the actor gave her the money she left, and didn’t see Steven again until they started working on the 1991 film together.
However, because of their encounter, she refused to meet with the tough guy actor alone on set.
“I said to everyone in there, I know you don’t know me, but I’d really appreciate it if no one would ever let me be in the room alone with him. Because I was scared,” she added.

Mark Wahlberg’s The Six Billion Dollar Man Pushed Back A Year

Mark Wahlberg’s The Six Billion Dollar Man has been pushed back a year to 2020.
The actor is set to play Colonel Steve Austin, a part made famous by Lee Majors, who becomes half machine following a near-death accident, in the long-awaited adaptation of the classic 1970s sci-fi TV show.
While the project has been in development since 2014, it has faced a number of setbacks, with Warner Bros. executives confirming to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday that the film’s release date has been moved from 31 May 2019 to 5 June 2020.
Filming on The Six Billion Dollar Man was originally due to begin in early 2015 but it was reported in November that year that director Peter Berg had left the film and had been replaced by Damian Szifron, who would also pen the script.
However, the film faced a further shake-up last December when Warner Bros. purchased the rights to the movie from The Weinstein Company, the production company co-run by disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. In addition, Szifron announced last Wednesday that he would no longer be directing the movie, reportedly due to creative differences.
Warner Bros. bosses are currently seeking his replacement.
Meanwhile, the studio has also switched up some of its other scheduled releases. Crazy Rich Asians is set to hit cinemas from 15 August 2018, Godzilla 2 will now be released on 31 May 2019, and Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep, a sequel to The Shining, will open on 24 January 2020.
Wahlberg was most recently seen onscreen in family comedy Daddy’s Home 2 and drama All the Money in the World, and is currently filming Mile 22, an action flick about an elite American intelligence officer, aided by a top-secret tactical command unit, who tries to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of the country.
