Kim Kardashian enjoyed the sweet smell of success on Tuesday when her new fragrances raked in $5 million in just five minutes.
The reality TV star and entrepreneur unveiled three perfumes – Kimoji Cherry, Kimoji Peach and Kimoji Vibes – and quickly cashed in on seven figures without spending any money on advertising, promoting the products exclusively through social media.
Kim’s Kimoji perfumes retail for $45 per bottle and are expected to sell out quickly, although sources tell TMZ she ensured there was more than enough to go around for the second line after her first perfume launch last year sold out almost instantly, netting $10 million of sales in a day.
Turning over an incredible profit for beauty products in a short amount of time is not an uncommon occurrence for the 37-year-old wife of rapper and fashion designer Kanye West – she has also cornered the make-up market, earning $14 million in five minutes after launching her KKW Cosmetics last summer.
However, the new launch isn’t all good news for Kim – she has been slapped with a lawsuit over her new perfume’s logo.
According to court papers obtained by The Blast, Vibes Media has hit Kim with a civil case, claiming her KKW company swiped a logo they created and trademarked in 2012 to promote her latest fragrance line.
Representatives at Vibes Media claim KKW bosses have been abusing the logo through marketing and promotion, as well as packaging the scents in a bottle that is “a close facsimile of the Registered Vibes Logo”.
Bosses at the company are seeking unspecified damages and have requested a judge impose an injunction to prevent Kim from selling any more perfume. They also want unsold fragrance bottles to be destroyed.
